FREEING A STUCK VEHICLE
CAUTION! (Continued)
If your vehicle becomes stuck in mud, sand or snow, it
can often be moved by a rocking motion. Turn your
steeringwheelrightandlefttocleartheareaaroundthe
front wheels. Then move the shift lever back and forth
betweenREVERSEandDRIVE.Usingminimalaccelera-
torpedalpressuretomaintaintherockingmotion,with-
outspinningthewheels,ismosteffective.

Revvingtheengineorspinningthewheelstoofast
mayleadtotransmissionoverheatingandfailure.
It can also damage the tires. Do not spin the
wheelsabove30mph(48km/h)whileingear(no
transmissionshiftingoccurring).
NOTE: Toimprovethevehicle’stractionwhenstarting
offindeepsnow,sandorgravel,itmaybedesirableto
switchtheElectronicStabilityProgram(ESP)to“Partial
Off”mode.Referto“ElectronicBrakeControlSystem”in
“StartingandOperating”forfurtherinformation.

When “rocking” a stuck vehicle by moving be-
tween 1st and REVERSE, do not spin the wheels
fasterthan15mph(24km/h),ordrivetraindamage
mayresult.
