Using a transmission fluid other than the manufac-
turer’s recommended fluid may cause deterioration
intransmissionshiftqualityand/ortorqueconverter
shudder. Using a transmission fluid other than the
manufacturer’s recommended fluid will result in
more frequent fluid and filter changes. Refer to
“Fluids, Lubricants, and Genuine Parts” in “Main-
tainingYourVehicle”forfurtherinformation.

Fullyapplytheparkingbrake.
4. Placetheshiftlevermomentarilyintoeachgearposi-
tion,endingwiththeshiftleverinPARK.Wipethearea
around the dipstick clean to eliminate the possibility of
dirtenteringthetransmission.

Removethedipstickanddetermineifthefluidishot
orwarm.Hotfluidisapproximately180°F(82°C),which
isthenormaloperatingtemperatureafterthevehiclehas
beendrivenatleast15miles(24km).Thefluidcannotbe
comfortably held between the fingertips. Cold is when
thefluidisbelow80°F(27°C).

The dipstick is located just behind the radiator on the
lowerrightside.
6.
Removethedipstickandnotereading.
Wipe the dipstick clean and reinsert until seated.
Toproperlychecktheautomatictransmissionfluidlevel,
thefollowingproceduremustbeused:

Thevehiclemustbeonlevelground.
