How to Add Manual Transmission Fluid When to Check and What to Use
Here is how to add fluid. See Recommended Fluids and
Lubricants on page 6-13 to determine which type of
fluid to use.
The hydraulic clutch fluid
reservoir cap has this
symbol on it. See Engine
Compartment Overview
on page 5-12 for reservoir
location.

Remove the filler plug.
Add fluid at the filler plug hole. Add only enough
fluid to bring the fluid level up to the bottom of the
filler plug hole.

If your vehicle is a CTS, replace the gasket and
reinstall the filler plug. If your vehicle is a CTS-V,
®
#516 or equivalent sealant to the
threads and then reinstall the filler plug.
apply LOCTITE
Again, with either vehicle, be sure the plug is
fully seated.
Refer to the Maintenance Schedule to determine how
often you should check the fluid level in your clutch
master cylinder reservoir and for the proper fluid to use.
See Owner Checks and Services on page 6-9 and
Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on page 6-13.
Hydraulic Clutch
It is not necessary to regularly check clutch fluid unless
you suspect there is a leak in the system. Adding fluid
will not correct a leak.
How to Check and Add Fluid
Make sure the fluid level is at the MIN (Minimum) line
on the side of the reservoir. If it is not, remove the cap
and add the proper fluid until the level reaches the
MIN line.
A fluid loss in this system could indicate a problem.
Have the system inspected and repaired.
