Foroptimumprotection,thedriverand
frontpassengerseatbeltsareequipped
withpretensionerandloadlimiting
systems.Forboththesesystemstowork
properlyyoumustweartheseatbelt
properly.
Incorrectpositioningofthedriverand
frontpassengerseatbeltsis
dangerous.Withoutproper
positioning,thepretensionerand
loadlimitingsystemscannotprovide
adequateprotectioninanaccident
andthiscouldresultinseriousinjury.

belts”(page2-20).
Pretensioners:
Thefrontseatbeltretractorsremoveslack
quicklyastheairbagsareexpanding.
Fordeploymentdetails,refertotheSRS
AirBagDeploymentCriteria(page2-54).
Inaddition,thepretensionersystemfor
thefrontpassenger,likethefront
passengerairbag,isdesignedtoonly
deployinaccordancewiththetotalseated
weightonthefrontpassengerseat.Any
timetheairbagsandseatbelt
Haveyourseatbeltschanged
immediatelyifthepretensionerorload
limiterhasbeenexpended:
Oneorbothfrontairbagsmay
deploy,andthecorresponding
pretensioner(s)mayalsodeployat
thesametime.Liketheairbags,the
frontseatbeltpretensionerswillonly
functiononce.Whileitissafertouse
apost-crash(aseatbeltthatwas
usedinanaccident)thannofront
seatbeltatall,usingafrontseatbelt
withanexpendedpretensioneror
loadlimiterloadedreducesthesafety
availabletoyou.Ifthefrontseatbelt
pretensionersarenotreplaced,the
riskofinjuryinacollisionwill
increase.Expendedfrontseatbelt
pretensionersandairbagsmustbe
replacedafteranycollisionwhich
causedthemtodeploy.Additionally,
theloadlimiterwillonlylimitloads
onthechestonceinacollisionand
thisisanotherreasontohavethe
frontseatbeltsinspected.Always
haveanAuthorizedMazdaDealer
inspectthefrontseatbelt
pretensionershavefiredtheymustbe
replaced.Fordetails,refertothedriver
andfrontpassengeroccupant
classificationsystem(page2-57).
Loadlimiter:
Theloadlimitingsystemreleasesbelt
webbinginacontrolledmannertoreduce
beltforceontheoccupant'schest.While
themostsevereloadonaseatbeltoccurs
infrontalcollisions,theloadlimiterhas
anautomaticmechanicalfunctionandcan
activateinanyaccidentmodewith
sufficientoccupantmovement.
Evenifthepretensionershavenotfired,
theloadlimitingfunctionmustbe
checkedbyanAuthorizedMazdaDealer.
