Transmission
The intelligent 7G-Tronic transmission reacts automatically to changes in your driving and selects the right ratio for every situation.
7G-Tronic. 7G-Tronic automatic transmission
comes as standard on both R-Class models.
Controlled via the Direct Select steering column
shift lever, it features seven forward gears
that ensure the engine is always operating
at the optimum speed, helping to reduce fuel
consumption, improve acceleration and maxi-
mise pulling power. In addition, its short, slick
shifts make for smoother, quieter driving,
and the transmission can also skip gears during
downshifts for more rapid overtaking.
Direct Select. Instead of a conventional gear
shift lever between the front seats, the R-Class
comes with the intuitive Direct Select steering
column gear shift lever. Just tap the lever to
switch between P, N, R and D and your input is
transmitted electronically to the transmission.
Alternatively, you can opt to change gear manu-
ally via the steering wheel gear shift paddles.
