STARTING AND OPERATING
These  ind icators  are  narrow   strip s 1/  16 inch  (1.6  mm)
thick  and  are found   in the  tread  pattern  grooves.
WARN ING!
Fast  spinning   tires  can  be  dangerou  s.  Forces  gen er-
ated  by excessive   wheel  speed s  may  cause tire  dam-
age   or  failu re.   A  tire   could    explod e  and    injure
som eon e. Do  not  spin   you r veh icle’s  wheels   faster
than  35 mph (55km/h)  when  you  are stu ck. And  don’t
let anyon  e near a spinning   wheel,  no  matter  what  the
speed .
When  the tread  pattern  is  worn down   to these tread wear
ind icators,  the tires  shou ld be  rep laced .
Overload ing  you r vehicle, long  trip s in very hot  weather,
and  driving  on  bad  road s may  resu lt in greater   wear.
Replacement Tires
The tires  on you r new  vehicle provid  e a balance  of many
characteristics.   They   shou ld be  insp ected   regu larly  for
wear  and   correct  inflation   pressu re.  The  manu factu rer
strongly  recom mend s that  you use  tires equ ivalent  to the
originals  in  quality  and  perform  ance  when  rep lacem ent
is need ed  (see section  on  tread  wear  ind icators).  Failu re
to use  equ ivalent  rep lacem ent tires may  adversely   affect
the  safety, hand ling  and  rid e of you r vehicle.  We recom -
mend   that   you   contact   you r  original   equ ipment   tire
dealer  on  any questions   you  may  have  on tire  specifica-
tions  or capability.
