(describedbelow)moldedintothe
tire’ssidewall.TheseTireQuality
Gradesaredeterminedbystandards
thattheUnitedStatesDepartment
ofTransportationhasset.
TireQualityGradesapplytonew
pneumatictiresforuseon
passengercars.Theydonotapply
todeeptread,winter-typesnow
tires,space-saverortemporaryusesparetires,tireswithnominalrim
diametersof10to12inchesorlimitedproductiontiresasdefinedin
Title49CodeofFederalRegulationsPart575.104(c)(2).
U.S.DepartmentofTransportation-Tirequalitygrades:TheU.S.
DepartmentofTransportationrequiresFordtogiveyouthefollowing
informationabouttiregradesexactlyasthegovernmenthaswrittenit.
Treadwear
Thetreadweargradeisacomparativeratingbasedonthewearrateof
thetirewhentestedundercontrolledconditionsonaspecified
governmenttestcourse.Forexample,atiregraded150wouldwearone
andone-half(11/2)timesaswellonthegovernmentcourseasatire
graded100.Therelativeperformanceoftiresdependsupontheactual
conditionsoftheiruse,however,andmaydepartsignificantlyfromthe
normduetovariationsindrivinghabits,servicepractices,and
differencesinroadcharacteristicsandclimate.
Traction AA A B C
Thetractiongrades,fromhighesttolowestareAA,A,B,andC.Those
gradesrepresentthetire’sabilitytostoponwetpavementasmeasured
undercontrolledconditionsonspecifiedgovernmenttestsurfacesof
asphaltandconcrete.AtiremarkedCmayhavepoortraction
performance.
Thetractiongradeassignedtothistireisbasedon
straight-aheadbrakingtractiontests,anddoesnotinclude
acceleration,cornering,hydroplaningorpeaktractioncharacteristics.
