closestsafeareaoutoftraffic.Thismayfurtherdamagetheflattire,but
yoursafetyismoreimportant.
Ifyoufeelasuddenvibrationorridedisturbancewhiledriving,oryou
suspectyourtireorvehiclehasbeendamaged,immediatelyreduceyour
speed.Drivewithcautionuntilyoucansafelypullofftheroad.Stopand
inspectthetiresfordamage.Ifatireisunder-inflatedordamaged,
deflateit,removewheelandreplaceitwithyoursparetireandwheel.If
youcannotdetectacause,havethevehicletowedtothenearestrepair
facilityortiredealertohavethevehicleinspected.
Tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)(if equipped)
Whenthetirepressuremonitoring
systemwarninglightislit,oneor
moreofyourtiresissignificantly
under-inflated.Youshouldstopand
checkyourtiresassoonaspossible,
andinflatethemtotheproperpressureasindicatedonthevehicle’ stire
informationplacard(label).Drivingonasignificantlyunder-inflatedtire
causesthetiretooverheatandcanleadtotirefailure.Under-inflation
alsoreducesfuelefficiencyandtiretreadlife,andmayaffectthe
vehicle’shandlingandstoppingability.Evenifyourvehicleisequipped
withatirepressuremonitoringsystem,itisstillimportantthatyou
manuallychecktheinflationpressureofyourtiresregularly.Eachtire,
includingthespare,shouldbecheckedmonthlywhencoldandsettothe
recommendedinflationpressureasspecifiedonthevehicleplacard
(label)andintheowner’ smanual.
Note:TheTirePressureMonitoringSystem(TPMS)monitorstire
pressureineachpneumatictire.Thepressureineachtireisdependent
uponseveralfactors,oneofthembeingthecontainedairtemperature
(temperatureoftheairinsidethetire).Asthecontainedairtemperature
increases,thetirepressurealsoincreases.Whiledrivinginanormal
manner,atypicalpassengertireinflationpressuremayincrease
approximately2to4psi(14to28kPa)fromacoldstartsituation.This
increaseintirepressureisduetoanincreaseinthecontainedair
