theengineisstarted.Thewarninglights
(exceptbrakes)shouldbeinspected
beforetheengineisstarted(page5-31).

Depressthebrakepedal.
NOTE
Whentheignitionswitchisturnedto
theONposition,thesoundofthefuel
pumpmotoroperatingnearthefuel
tankcanbeheard.Thisdoesnot
indicateanabnormality.

Depresstheclutchpedalalltheway
andshiftintoneutral.
Keepthepedaldepressedwhile
crankingtheengine.
(Automatictransaxle)
START
Putthevehicleinpark(P).Ifyoumust
restarttheenginewhilethevehicleis
moving,shiftintoneutral(N).
Theengineisstartedinthisposition.It
willcrankuntilyoureleasethekey;then
itreturnstotheONposition.Thebrake
warninglightcanbecheckedafterthe
engineisstarted(page5-31).
NOTE
(Manualtransaxle)
Thestarterwillnotoperateiftheclutch
pedalisnotdepressedalltheway.
qIgnitionKeyReminder
IftheignitionswitchisintheLOCKor
ACCpositionwiththekeyinserted,a
beepsoundwillbeheardwhenthe
driver'sdoorisopened.

Thestarterwillnotoperateiftheshift
leverisnotinPorN.

TurntheignitionswitchtotheSTART
positionandhold(upto10secondsat
atime)untiltheenginestarts.
