Eachtire,includingthespare(if
provided),shouldbechecked
monthlywhencoldandinflatedto
theinflationpressurerecommended
bythevehiclemanufactureronthe
vehicleplacardortireinflation
pressurelabel.(Ifyourvehiclehas
tiresofadifferentsizethanthesize
indicatedonthevehicleplacardor
tireinflationpressurelabel,you
shoulddeterminethepropertire
inflationpressureforthosetires.)
Asanaddedsafetyfeature,your
vehiclehasbeenequippedwithatire
pressuremonitoringsystem(TPMS)
thatilluminatesalowtirepressure
telltalewhenoneormoreofyour
tiresissignificantlyunder-inflated.
Accordingly,whenthelowtire
pressuretelltaleilluminates,you
shouldstopandcheckyourtiresas
soonaspossible,andinflatethemto
theproperpressure.Drivingona
significantlyunder-inflatedtire
causesthetiretooverheatandcan
leadtotirefailure.Under-inflation
alsoreducesfuelefficiencyandtire
treadlife,andmayaffectthe

TheTPMSmalfunctionindicatoris
combinedwiththelowtirepressure
telltale.Whenthesystemdetectsa
malfunction,thetelltalewillflashfor
approximatelyoneminuteandthen
remaincontinuouslyilluminated.
Thissequencewillcontinueupon
subsequentvehiclestart-upsaslong
asthemalfunctionexists.
Whenthemalfunctionindicatoris
illuminated,thesystemmaynotbe
abletodetectorsignallowtire
pressureasintended.TPMS
malfunctionsmayoccurforavariety
ofreasons,includingtheinstallation
ofreplacementoralternatetiresor
wheelsonthevehiclethatprevent
theTPMSfromfunctioning
properly.AlwayschecktheTPMS
malfunctiontelltaleafterreplacing
oneormoretiresorwheelsonyour
vehicletoensurethatthe
replacementoralternatetiresand
wheelsallowtheTPMStocontinue
tofunctionproperly.
Toavoidfalsereadings,thesystem
samplesforalittlewhilebefore
indicatingaproblem.Asaresultit
willnotinstantaneouslyregistera
rapidtiredeflationorblowout.
