performthefollowingprocedureasan
emergencymeasuretounlockit:

Donotplaceanythingontopofthe
cover:
Placingluggageorothercargoontop
oftheluggagecompartmentcoveris
dangerous.Duringsuddenbrakingor
acollision,thecargocouldbecomea
projectilethatcouldhitandinjure
someone.Thevehiclehasalight
weightluggagecompartmentcoverto
keepthecontentsofyourluggagearea
outofsight;itwillnotretainheavy
objectsthatarenottieddowninan
accidentsuchasarollover.Tiedown
allheavyobjects,whetherluggageor
cargo,usingthetiedownhooks.

Removethecapontheinterior
surfaceoftheliftgatewithaflathead
screwdriver.
Cap
Makesureluggageandcargois
securedbeforedriving:
Notsecuringcargowhiledrivingis
dangerousasitcouldmoveorbe
crushedduringsuddenbrakingora
collisionandcauseinjury.

Turnthelevertotherighttounlock
theliftgate.
Lever
CAUTION
Makesuretheluggagecompartment
coverisfirmlysecured.Ifitisnot
firmlysecured,itcouldunexpectedly
disengageresultingininjury.
Afterperformingthisemergency
measure,havethevehicleinspectedat
anAuthorizedMazdaDealerassoonas
possible.
Closingtheliftgate
Usebothhandstopushtheliftgatedown
untilthelocksnapsshut.Donotslamit.
Pullupontheliftgatetomakesureitis
securelylatched.
