6. UsingtheTRANSTEMPreading, determine and
performtheappropriate checkprocedure. Ifthe
TRANSTEMPreadingisnotwithintherequired
temperature ranges,allowthevehicletocool,
oroperatethevehicleuntiltheappropriate
transmission fluidtemperature isreached.
Notice: Toomuchortoolittlefluidcandamageyour
transmission. Toomuchcanmeanthatsomeofthe
fluidcouldcomeoutandfallonhotenginepartsor
exhaustsystemparts,starting afire.Toolittlefluid
couldcausethetransmission tooverheat. Besure
togetanaccurate readingifyoucheckyour
transmission fluid.
ColdCheckProcedure
Usethisprocedure onlyasareference todetermine if
thetransmission hasenoughfluidtobeoperated safely
untilahotcheckprocedure canbemade.Thehot
checkprocedure isthemostaccurate methodtocheck
thefluidlevel.Performthehotcheckprocedure atthe
firstopportunity.Usethiscoldcheckprocedure tocheck
fluidlevelwhenthetransmission temperature is
between24°Cand34°C(75°Fand93°F).
Beforechecking thefluidlevel,preparethevehicleas
follows:

Starttheengineandparkthevehicleonalevel
surface. Keeptheenginerunning.
Applytheparkingbrakeandplacetheshiftleverin
P(Park).

Locatethe
Withyourfootonthebrakepedal,movetheshift
leverthrougheachgearrange,pausingforabout
threesecondsineachrange.Then,movetheshift
leverbacktoP(Park).

Allowtheenginetoidle(500–800RPM)forat
leastoneminute.Slowlyreleasethebrakepedal.
KeeptheenginerunningandpresstheTrip/Fuel

TEMP(Transmission Temperature)displays onthe
DriverInformation Center(DIC).
