The idle speed is automatically controlled and will de-
creaseastheenginewarmsup.
CAUTION!
To prevent damage to the starter, do not crank the
engineformorethan15secondsatatime.Wait10to
secondsbeforetryingagain.

TurntheignitionkeytotheON/RUNposition.
Watchthe“GlowPlugIndicatorLight.”Itwillstayon
Iftheenginehasbeenflooded,itmaystarttorun,butnot
haveenoughpowertocontinuerunningwhenthekeyis
released.Ifthisoccurs,continuecrankingwiththeaccel-
eratorpedalpushedallthewaytothefloor.Releasethe
acceleratorpedalandthekeyoncetheengineisrunning
smoothly.
for a maximum of 2 seconds, depending on engine
temperature.Whenthe“GlowPlugIndicatorLight”goes    5
out,theengineisreadytostart.

Donotpresstheaccelerator.Turntheignitionkeyto
STARTandholditinthispositionuntiltheenginestarts.
If the engine shows no sign of starting after two 15
second periods of cranking with the accelerator pedal
heldtothefloor,the“NormalStarting”procedureshould
berepeated.
StartingandOperatingCautions—DieselEngines
Under normal conditions, do not operate the starter
for longer than 20 seconds at one time. At tempera-
turesbelow5°F(Ϫ15°C),youmayoperatethestarter
for up to 25 seconds at one time. Longer periods of
