IfyoucannotmovethegearshiftleveroutofP(Park)withignitionin
theONpositionandthebrakepedaldepressed:
1.Applytheparkingbrake,turnignitionkeytoLOCK,thenremovethe
key.
WhenthekeyisintheignitionandintheOFFposition,the
automatictransmissionshiftlevercanbemovedfromthe
P(Park)positionwithoutthebrakepedaldepressed.Toavoid
unwantedvehiclemovement,alwayssettheparkingbrake.

Usingascrewdriver(orsimilar
tool),removetheprotectivecover
totheinterlockaccessholeonthe
console.Insertthekeytorelease
theinterlock.

Applytheparkingbrake,thenshifttoN(Neutral).
Startthevehicle.
Ifitisnecessarytousetheaboveproceduretomovethegearshiftlever,
itispossiblethatafusehasblownorthevehicle’sbrakelampsarenot
operatingproperly.RefertoFusesandrelaysintheRoadside
Emergencieschapter.
Donotdriveyourvehicleuntilyouverifythatthebrakelamps
areworking.
Alwayssettheparkingbrakefullyandmakesurethegearshiftis
latchedinP(Park).TurntheignitiontotheLOCKpositionand
removethekeywheneveryouleaveyourvehicle.
Iftheparkingbrakeisfullyreleased,butthebrakewarninglamp
remainsilluminated,thebrakesmaynotbeworkingproperly.
