Thedriver’sseatpositionsensorallowsyourPersonalSafetySystemto
tailorthedeploymentlevelofthedriverdual-stageairbagbasedonseat
position.Thesystemisdesignedtohelpprotectsmallerdriverssitting
closetothedriverairbagbyprovidingalowerairbagoutputlevel.
Frontpassengersensingsystem
Forairbagstodotheirjobtheymustinflatewithgreatforce,andthis
forcecanposeapotentiallydeadlyrisktooccupantsthatareveryclose
totheairbagwhenitbeginstoinflate.Forsomeoccupants,likeinfants
inrear-facingchildseats,thisoccursbecausetheyareinitiallysitting
veryclosetotheairbag.Forotheroccupants,thisoccurswhenthe
occupantisnotproperlyrestrainedbysafetybeltsorchildsafetyseats
andtheymoveforwardduringpre-crashbraking.Themosteffectiveway
toreducetheriskofunnecessaryinjuriesistomakesurealloccupants
areproperlyrestrained.Accidentstatisticssuggestthatchildrenare
muchsaferwhenproperlyrestrainedintherearseatingpositionsthanin

rear-facingchildseatinfrontofanactiveairbag.Ifyoumust
useaforward-facingchildseatinthefrontseat,movetheseatallthe
wayback.

Thefrontpassengersensingsystemcanautomaticallyturnoffthe
passengerfrontairbag.Thesystemisdesignedtohelpprotectsmall
(childsize)occupantsfromairbagdeploymentswhentheyare
improperlyseatedorrestrainedinthefrontpassengerseatcontraryto
properchild-seatingorrestraintusagerecommendations.Evenwiththis
