ThePersonalSafetySystemcanadaptthedeploymentstrategyofyour
vehicle’ssafetydevicesaccordingtocrashseverityandconditions.A
collectionofcrashsensorsprovidesinformationtotheRestraintsControl
Module(RCM).Duringacrash,theRCMactivatesthesafetybelt
pretensionersand/oreithernone,one,orbothstagesofthedual-stage
airbagsupplementalrestraintsbasedoncrashseverityandconditions.
Thefactthatthepretensionersorairbagsdidnotactivateforbothfront
seatoccupantsinacollisiondoesnotmeanthatsomethingiswrongwith
thesystem.Rather,itmeansthePersonalSafetySystemdetermined
theaccidentconditions(crashseverity,beltusage,etc.)werenot
appropriatetoactivatethesesafetydevices.Frontairbagsaredesigned
toactivateonlyinfrontalandnear-frontalcollisions,notrollovers,
side-impacts,orrear-impactsunlessthecollisioncausessufficient
longitudinaldeceleration.

Thedual-stageairbagsofferthecapabilitytotailorthelevelofairbag
inflationenergy.Alower,lessforcefulenergylevelisprovidedformore
common,moderate-severityimpacts.Ahigherenergylevelisusedfor
