aftersixyearsduetoagingevenifithasnotbeenused.
U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number (TIN)
BothU.S.andCanadaFederalregulationsrequiretiremanufacturersto
placestandardizedinformationonthesidewallofalltires.This
informationidentifiesanddescribesthefundamentalcharacteristicsof
thetireandalsoprovidesaU.S.DOTTireIdentificationNumberfor
safetystandardcertificationandincaseofarecall.
Thisbeginswiththeletters“DOT”andindicatesthatthetiremeetsall
federalstandards.Thenexttwonumbersorlettersaretheplantcode
designatingwhereitwasmanufactured,thenexttwoarethetiresize
codeandthelastfournumbersrepresenttheweekandyearthetirewas
built.Forexample,thenumbers317meanthe31stweekof1997.After
2000
thenumbersgotofourdigits.Forexample,2501meansthe25th
weekof2001.Thenumbersinbetweenareidentificationcodesusedfor
traceability.Thisinformationisusedtocontactcustomersifatiredefect
requiresarecall.
