STARTING AND OPERATING
Four-Wheel Drive Models
Usethefollowingproceduretoprepareyourvehiclefor
recreationaltowing.
NOTE: ThetransfercasemustbeshiftedintoN(Neu-
tral),automatictransmissionmustbeshiftedintoPARK,
andmanualtransmissionmustbeplacedingear(notin
NEUTRAL)forrecreationaltowing.
CAUTION!
Itisnecessarytofollowthesestepstobecertainthat
thetransfercaseisfullyinN(Neutral)beforerecre-
ationaltowingtopreventdamagetointernalparts.
ShiftingIntoNeutral(N)

Turntheengineoff.
You or others could be injured if you leave the
vehicle unattended with the transfer case in the N
(Neutral) position without first fully engaging the
parkingbrake.ThetransfercaseN(Neutral)position
disengagesboththefrontandreardriveshaftsfrom
the powertrain and will allow the vehicle to move,
even if the transmission is in PARK. The parking
brake should always be applied when the driver is
notinthevehicle.
Pressthebrakepedal.
3. Shift the automatic transmission into NEUTRAL or
presstheclutchpedalonamanualtransmission.
4.
ShiftthetransfercaseleverintoN(Neutral).
5. Starttheengine.
Shift the automatic transmission into DRIVE or the
manualtransmissionintogear.
