AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OPERATION

Brake-shift interlock

Thisvehicleisequippedwithabrake-shiftinterlockfeaturethatprevents

thegearshiftleverfrombeingmovedfromP(Park)whentheignitionis

intheONpositionunlessbrakepedalisdepressed.

IfyoucannotmovethegearshiftleveroutofP(Park)withignitionin

theONpositionandthebrakepedaldepressed:

1.Applytheparkingbrake,turnignitionkeytoLOCK,thenremovethe

key.

InsertthekeyandturnittoOFF.ApplythebrakepedalandshifttoN

(Neutral).

Startthevehicle.

Ifitisnecessarytousetheaboveproceduretomovethegearshiftlever,

itispossiblethatafusehasblownorthevehicle’sbrakelampsarenot

operatingproperly.RefertoFusesandrelaysintheRoadside

emergencieschapter.

Donotdriveyourvehicleuntilyouverifythatthebrakelamps

areworking.

Ifyourvehiclegetsstuckinmudorsnow,itmayberockedoutby

shiftingfromforwardandreversegearswhilestoppingbetweenshifts,in

asteadypattern.Presslightlyontheacceleratorineachgear.If

necessary,tryturningtheTractionControl௢systemoff.Thiswillallow

thewheelstospin,whichmayhelptofreeyourstuckvehicle.Formore

information,refertoTractionControl௢(ifequipped)inthischapter.

Donotrockthevehicleiftheengineisnotatnormaloperating

temperatureordamagetothetransaxlemayoccur.

Donotrockthevehicleformorethanafewminutesordamage

tothetransaxleandtiresmayoccurortheenginemayoverheat.

Alwayssettheparkingbrakefullyandmakesurethegearshiftis

latchedinP(Park).Turnofftheignitionwheneveryouleave

yourvehicle.
