Thefrontandsidesupplementalrestraintsystems(SRS)include6airbags.Youcanlocate
thevariousairbagsbytheuseof“SRSAIRBAG”locationindicators.Theseindicators
arevisibleintheareawheretheairbagsareinstalled.
Theairbagsareinstalledinthefollowinglocations:
Thesteeringwheelhub(driverairbag)

Thefrontpassengerdashboard(frontpassengerairbag)
l
Theoutboardsidesofthefrontseatbacks(sideairbags)
l
Thefrontandrearwindowpillars,andtheroofedgealongbothsides(curtainairbags)
l
Thesesystemsoperateindependentlydependingonthetypeofaccidentencountered;The
sideandcurtainairbagsarenotlikelytodeployonbothsidesinthesameaccidentbecause
avehicleisnotoftenhitfrombothsides.Thesideandcurtainairbagsandthefrontalair
bagsystemwillnotnormallydeployduringthesametypeofaccidentunlessacombination
offrontalandsideimpactsoccur.
Theairbagsupplementalrestraintsystemsaredesignedtoprovidesupplementalprotection
onlyinthefrontseatsincertainsituationsandtherearoutsidepassengerpositionsonlyin
same-sidecollisions,soseatbeltsarealwaysimportantinthefollowingways:
Withoutseatbeltusage,theairbagscannotprovideadequateprotectionduringanaccident.
Seatbeltusageisnecessaryto:
Keeptheoccupantfrombeingthrownintoaninflatingairbag.

Reducethepossibilityofinjuriesduringanaccidentthatisnotdesignedforairbag
l
inflation,suchasroll-overorrearimpact.
Reducethepossibilityofinjuriesinfrontalorsidecollisionsthatarenotsevereenough
l
toactivatetheairbags.
Reducethepossibilityofbeingthrownfromyourvehicle.
l
Reducethepossibilityofinjuriestolowerbodyandlegsduringanaccidentbecausethe
l
airbagsprovidenoprotectiontothesepartsofthebody.
Holdthedriverinapositionwhichallowsbettercontrolofthevehicle.
l
Smallchildrenmustbeprotectedbyachild-restraintsystemasstipulatedbylawinevery
stateandprovince.Incertainstatesandprovinces,largerchildrenmustuseachild-restraint
system(page2-25).
Carefullyconsiderwhichchild-restraintsystemisnecessaryforyourchildandfollowthe
installationdirectionsinthisOwner'sManualaswellasthechild-restraintsystem
manufacturer'sinstructions.
