Whenairbagcrashsensorsdetectasideimpactofgreaterthanmoderateforce,an
electricalcurrentissenttotheinflators.
Gasesareproducedtoinflatethesideandcurtainairbagsandaftertheinflation,theside
andcurtainairbagsquicklydeflate.However,thesideairbagsystemforthefront
passengerisdesignedtoonlydeployinaccordancewiththetotalseatedweightonthefront
passengerseat,howeverthecurtainsarenotdeactivated.
Thesideandcurtainairbagswillfunctiononlyonce.Afterthat,thesideandcurtainair
bagswillnotworkagainandmustbereplaced.OnlyanAuthorizedMazdaDealercan
replacethesystems.
The side and curtain air bags will deploy only on the side the
vehicle receives the force of the impact.

Ifthefrontpassengerseatweightsensorsdetectatotalseatedweightonthefrontpassengerseatis
lessthanapproximately42kg(93lb),thefrontpassengerfrontandsideairbagsandseatbelt
pretensionermaynotdeploy(page2-44),butthecurtainairbagsmaydeploy.
