ENGINE COOLANT
Checking engine coolant
Theconcentrationandlevelofenginecoolantshouldbecheckedatthe
mileageintervalslistedinthescheduledmaintenanceguide.Thecoolant
concentrationshouldbemaintainedat50/50coolantandwater,which
equatestoafreezepointof-36°C(-34°F).Coolantconcentration
testingispossiblewithahydrometerorantifreezetester(suchasthe
RotundaBatteryandAntifreezeTester,014–R1060).Thelevelofcoolant
shouldbemaintainedatthe“coldfull”of“coldfillrange”levelinthe
coolantreservoir.Ifthelevelfallsbelow,addcoolantpertheinstructions
intheAddingEngineCoolantsection.
Yourvehiclewasfactory-filledwitha50/50enginecoolantandwater
concentration.Iftheconcentrationofcoolantfallsbelow40%orabove
60%,

theenginepartscouldbecomedamagedornotworkproperly.A
mixtureofcoolantandwaterprovidesthefollowing:
Freezeprotectiondownto-36°C(-34°F).
Boilingprotectionupto129°C(265°F).
Protectionagainstrustandotherformsofcorrosion.
Enablescalibratedgaugestoworkproperly.
