Donotusealcohol,methanolorbrineoranyenginecoolants
mixedwithalcoholormethanolantifreeze(coolant).Alcoholand
otherliquidscancauseenginedamagefromoverheatingorfreezing.
Donotaddextrainhibitorsoradditivestothecoolant.These
canbeharmfulandcompromisethecorrosionprotectionoftheengine
coolant.
DonotmixwithrecycledcoolantunlessfromaFord-approved
recyclingprocess(seeUseofRecycledEngineCoolantsection).
Forvehicleswithoverflowcoolantsystemswithanon-pressurizedcap
onthecoolantrecoverysystem,addcoolanttothecoolantrecovery
reservoirwhentheengineiscool.Addthepropermixtureofcoolantand
watertothe“coldfull”level.Forallothervehicles,whichhaveacoolant
degassystemwithapressurizedcap,orifitisnecessarytoremovethe
coolantpressurereliefcapontheradiatorofavehiclewithanoverflow
system,followthesestepstoaddenginecoolant.
Toavoidpersonalinjury,makesuretheengineiscoolbefore
unscrewingthecoolantpressurereliefcap.Thecoolingsystemis
underpressure;steamandhotliquidcancomeoutforcefullywhenthe
capisloosenedslightly.

Slowlyturncapcounterclockwise(left)untilpressurebeginstorelease.
Beforeyoubegin,turntheengineoffandletitcool.
Whentheengineiscool,wrapathickclotharoundthecoolant

Stepbackwhilethepressurereleases.
Whenyouaresurethatallthepressurehasbeenreleased,usethe
clothtoturnitcounterclockwiseandremovethecap.

Fillthecoolantreservoirslowlywiththepropercoolantmixture(see
above),towithinthe“coldfillrange”orthe“coldfull”levelonthe
reservoir.Ifyouremovedtheradiatorcapinanoverflowsystem,fillthe
radiatoruntilthecoolantisvisibleandradiatorisalmostfull.

Replacethecap.Turnuntiltightlyinstalled.(Capmustbetightly
installedtopreventcoolantloss.)
Afteranycoolanthasbeenadded,checkthecoolantconcentrationsee
CheckingEngineCoolantsection).Iftheconcentrationisnot50/50
(protectionto–34°F/–36°C),drainsomecoolantandadjustthe
concentration.Itmaytakeseveraldrainsandadditionstoobtaina50/50
coolantconcentration.
