Insomeclimatesitisrecommendedthatalower
viscosity "winter weight" oil be used during cold
weather.SeeSection9forrecommendations.If
you aren’t sure what weight oil you should use,
consult your Hyundai dealer.
Tokeepthewaterinthewindowwashersystem
fromfreezing,addanapprovedanti-freezesolu-
tion in accordance with instructions on the con-
tainer. Window washer anti-freeze is available
from Hyundai dealers and most auto parts out-
lets. Do not use engine coolant or other types of
anti-freeze as these may damage the finish.
NOTE:
Tire chains are not legal in all provinces.

6 and replace them if necessary. Also check all
ignition wiring and components to be sure they
are not cracked, worn or damaged in any way.

Use High Quality Ethylene Glycol
Under some conditions your parking brake can
freezeintheengagedposition. Thisismostlikely
tohappenwhenthereisanaccumulationofsnow
or ice around or near the rear brakes or if the
brakesarewet.Ifthereisarisktheparkingbrake
may freeze, apply it only temporarily while you
putthegearselectorleverin"P"(automatic)orin
first or reverse gear (manual transaxle) and
blocktherearwheelssothecarcannotroll.Then
release the parking brake.
Coolant
YourHyundaiisdeliveredwithhighqualityethyl-
eneglycolcoolantinthecoolingsystem.Itisthe
onlytypeofcoolantthatshouldbeusedbecause
it helps prevent corrosion in the cooling system,
lubricatesthewaterpumpandpreventsfreezing.
Be sure to replace or replenish your coolant in
accordance with the maintenance schedule in
Section5.Beforewinter,haveyourcoolanttest-
edtoassurethatitsfreezingpointissufficientfor
the temperatures anticipated during the winter.

To Keep Locks from Freezing
To keep the locks from freezing, squirt an ap-
proved de-icer fluid or glycerine into the key
opening.Ifalockiscoveredwithice,squirtitwith
an approved de-icing fluid to remove the ice. If
the lock is frozen internally, you may be able to
thaw it out by using a heated key. Handle the
heated key with care to avoid burning your fin-
gers.

Check Battery and Cables
Under some conditions, snow and ice can build
upunderthefendersandinterferewiththesteer-
ing. When driving in severe winter conditions
wherethismayhappen,youshouldperiodically
check underneath the car to be sure the move-
mentofthefrontwheelsandthesteeringcompo-
nents is not obstructed.
NOTE:
Winter puts additional burdens on the battery
system. Visually inspect the battery and cables
as described in Section 6. The level of charge in
your battery can be checked by your Hyundai
dealer or a service station.
The proper temperature for using the immo-
bilizer key is from -40°C to 80°C. If you heat
the immobilizer key over 80°C to open the
frozen lock, it may cause damage to the
transponder in its head.
