Seatbeltshelptodecreasethepossibilityofsevereinjuryduringaccidentsandsudden

stops.Mazdarecommendsthatthedriverandpassengeralwayswearseatbelts.

Alloftheseatbeltretractorsaredesignedtokeepthelap/shoulderbeltsoutoftheway

whennotinuse.

Thedriver'sseatbelthasnoprovisionsforchild-restraintsystemsandhasonlyan

emergencylockingmode.Thedrivermaywearitcomfortably,anditwilllockduringa

collision.

However,thepassenger'sseatlap/shoulderbeltretractorsoperateintwomodes:emergency

lockingmode,andforchild-restraintsystems,automaticlockingmode.

YourvehicleisequippedwithLATCHloweranchorsforsecuringtheLATCHchild-

restraintsysteminthepassengerseatbutthereisnochild-restrainttetheravailable.As

thereisnorearseatonthisvehicle,thepreferredlocationforchildren,followingthe

manufacturer'sinstructionsontheLATCHchildrestraint-systemandthisowner'smanualis

important(page2-23).

WARNING

NotWearingSeatBelts:

Notwearingaseatbeltisextremelydangerous.Duringacollision,occupantsnot

wearingseatbeltscouldhitsomeoneorthingsinsidethevehicleorevenbethrownout

ofthevehicle.Theycouldbeseriouslyinjuredorevenkilled.Inthesamecollision,

occupantswearingseatbeltswouldbemuchsafer.Alwayswearyourseatbeltand

makesurealloccupantsareproperlyrestrained.

SeatBeltDamagedDuringanAccident:

Usingadamagedseatbeltisdangerous.Anaccidentcoulddamagethebeltwebbing

oftheseatbeltinuse.Adamagedseatbeltcannotprovideadequateprotectionina

collision.Airbagsandpretensionersworktogether,butwhetheraseatwasoccupied

ornot,ifanyairbagdeployedandwhetheraseatbeltpretensionerdeployedornot,

allseatbeltsandairbagsmustbeinspectedandreplacedifnecessary.Havean

AuthorizedMazdaDealerinspectallseatbeltsystemsinuseduringanaccidentbefore

theyareusedagain.

TwistedSeatBelts:

Twistedseatbeltsaredangerous.Inacollision,thefullwidthofthebeltisn'tavailable

toabsorbtheimpact.Thisputsmoreforceonthebonesbeneaththebelt,whichcould

causeseriousinjuryordeath.Don'tweartwistedseatbelts.
