WARNING
ExpendedSeatBeltPretensioners:
Airbagsmaydeploy,andthe
Foroptimumprotection,thedriverand
passengerseatbeltsareequippedwith
pretensionerandloadlimitingsystems.
Inmoderateorgreaterfrontalornear-
frontalaccidents,theairbagand
correspondingpretensioner(s)will
alsodeployatthesametime.Useof
seatbeltswiththepretensionersystem
expendedisdangerous.Liketheair
bags,theseatbeltpretensionerswill
onlyfunctiononce.Aftertheyare
expended,theywillnotfunctionagain
andmustbereplacedimmediately.If
theseatbeltpretensionersarenot
replaced,theriskofinjuryina
collisionwillincrease.Alwayshavean
AuthorizedMazdaDealerinspectthe
seatbeltpretensionersandairbags
afteranycollision.Expendedseatbelt
pretensionersandairbagsmustbe
replacedafteranycollisionwhich
causedthemtodeploy.Additionally,
theloadlimiterwillonlylimitloadson
thechestonceinacollisionandis
anotherreasontohavetheseatbelts
inspected.
pretensionersystemsdeploy
simultaneously.Thepretensionerstakeup
slackintheseatbeltsastheairbagsare
expanding.Theseatbeltpretensioner
systemcannotprovideadequate
protectioninanaccidentiftheseatbeltis
notfastenedproperly.Theloadlimiting
systemreleasesbeltwebbingina
controlledmannertoreducebeltforceon
theoccupant'schest.
WARNING
IncorrectPositioningoftheDriver
andPassengerSeatBelts:
Incorrectpositioningofthedriverand
passengerseatbeltsisdangerous.
Withoutproperpositioning,the
pretensionerandloadlimitingsystems
cannotprovideadequateprotectionin
anaccidentandthiscouldresultin
seriousinjury.Wearseatbeltsonlyas
recommendedinthisowner'smanual
(page2-8).
ModificationorTestingofthe
PretensionerSystem:
Modifyingthecomponentsorwiring
ofthepretensionersystem,including
theuseofelectronictestingdevicesis
dangerous.Youcouldaccidentally
activateitormakeitinoperablewhich
wouldpreventitfromactivatinginan
accident.Theoccupantsorrepairers
couldbeseriouslyinjured.Never
modifythecomponentsorwiring,or
useelectronictestingdevicesonthe
pretensionersystem.
