TheORCModulemonitorsthereadinessoftheelectronic
partsofthesystemwhenevertheignitionswitchisinthe
START or ON positions. These include all of the items
previouslymentioned.
• Whencollisionthe ORC and the impact sensors detect a
the Driver Inflatable Knee
requiring
Blocker, it signals the inflator unit. A quantity of
nontoxic gas is generated to inflate the Driver Inflat-
ableKneeBlocker.TheDriverInflatableKneeBlocker
inflates rearward towards the driver’s knees to help
protectthekneesandpositionyouforthebestinter-
action with the front airbag. The Driver Inflatable
Knee Blocker fully inflates in about 50 milliseconds,
thisisonlyabouthalfofthetimeittakesyoutoblink
your eyes. It then quickly deflates while helping to
protectthedriver’sknees.
In moderate to severe side collisions, the side airbag
inflator on the crash side of the vehicle is triggered,
releasing a quantity of nontoxic gas. The inflating side
airbagexitsthroughtheseatseamintothespacebetween
the occupant and the door. The side airbag moves at a
veryhighspeedandwithsuchahighforce,thatitcould
injureyouifyouarenotseatedproperly,orifitemsare
positionedintheareawherethesideairbaginflates.This
especiallyappliestochildren.

NOTE: If your vehicle is equipped with left and right
side curtain air bags, do not install a clothing bar
mounted to the coat hooks (or similarly mounted). A
clothingbarwillimpedetheproperperformanceofthe
bags.
