U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number (TIN)
BothU.S.andCanadaFederalregulationsrequiretiremanufacturersto
placestandardizedinformationonthesidewallofalltires.This
informationidentifiesanddescribesthefundamentalcharacteristicsof
thetireandalsoprovidesaU.S.DOTTireIdentificationNumberfor
safetystandardcertificationandincaseofarecall.
Thisbeginswiththeletters“DOT”andindicatesthatthetiremeetsall
federalstandards.Thenexttwonumbersorlettersaretheplantcode
designatingwhereitwasmanufactured,thenexttwoarethetiresize
codeandthelastfournumbersrepresenttheweekandyearthetirewas
built.Forexample,thenumbers317meanthe31stweekof1997.After
2000
thenumbersgotofourdigits.Forexample,2501meansthe25th
weekof2001.Thenumbersinbetweenareidentificationcodesusedfor
traceability.Thisinformationisusedtocontactcustomersifatiredefect
requiresarecall.
Tire Replacement Requirements
Yourvehicleisequippedwithtiresdesignedtoprovideasaferideand
handlingcapability.
Onlyusereplacementtiresandwheelsthatarethesamesize,
loadindex,speedratingandtype(suchasP-metricversus
LT-metricorall-seasonversusall-terrain)asthoseoriginallyprovided
byFord.Therecommendedtireandwheelsizemaybefoundoneither
theSafetyComplianceCertificationLabelortheTireLabelwhichis
locatedontheB-Pillaroredgeofthedriver’sdoor.Ifthisinformation
isnotfoundontheselabelsthenyoushouldconsultyourForddealer.
UseofanytireorwheelnotrecommendedbyFordcanaffectthe
safetyandperformanceofyourvehicle,whichcouldresultinan
increasedriskoflossofvehiclecontrol,vehiclerollover,personalinjury
anddeath.Additionallytheuseofnon-recommendedtiresandwheels
couldcausesteering,suspension,axleortransfercase/powertransfer
unitfailure.Ifyouhavequestionsregardingtirereplacement,seean
authorizeddealer.
