Fuel quality
Ifyouareexperiencingstarting,roughidleorhesitationdriveability
problems,tryadifferentbrandofunleadedgasoline.“Premium”
unleadedgasolineisnotrecommendedforvehiclesdesignedtouse
“Regular”unleadedgasolinebecauseitmaycausetheseproblemsto
becomemorepronounced.Iftheproblemspersist,seeyourauthorized
dealer.
Donotaddaftermarketfueladditiveproductstoyourfueltank.It
shouldnotbenecessarytoaddanyaftermarketproductstoyourfuel
tankifyoucontinuetousehighqualityfueloftherecommendedoctane
rating.Theseproductshavenotbeenapprovedforyourengineand
couldcausedamagetothefuelsystem.Repairstocorrecttheeffectsof
usinganaftermarketproductinyourfuelmaynotbecoveredbyyour
warranty.
Manyoftheworld’sautomakersapprovedtheWorld-WideFuelCharter
thatrecommendsgasolinespecificationstoprovideimproved
performanceandemissioncontrolsystemprotectionforyourvehicle.
GasolinesthatmeettheWorld-WideFuelChartershouldbeusedwhen
available.Askyourfuelsupplieraboutgasolinesthatmeetthe
World-WideFuelCharter.
Cleaner air
Fordendorsestheuseofreformulated“cleaner-burning”gasolinesto
improveairquality,pertherecommendationsintheChoosingtheRight
Fuelsection.
Running out of fuel
Avoidrunningoutoffuelbecausethissituationmayhaveanadverse
effectonpowertraincomponents.
Ifyouhaverunoutoffuel:

YoumayneedtocycletheignitionfromOFFtoONseveraltimesafter
refuelingtoallowthefuelsystemtopumpthefuelfromthetankto
theengine.Onrestarting,crankingtimewilltakeafewsecondslonger
thannormal.

Normally,addingonegallonoffuelisenoughtorestarttheengine.If
thevehicleisoutoffuelandonasteepgrade,morethanonegallon
mayberequired.

indicatormaycomeon.Formoreinformationonthe“check
engine”orthe“serviceenginesoon”indicator,refertoWarninglights
andchimesintheInstrumentClusterchapter.
