Lighting
When the engine is running, and you
USA only:
Locator lighting and night security
illumination

turn the exterior lamp switch to
position C, the low beam head-
lamps, the tail and parking lamps, the
license plate lamps and the side mark-
er lamps switch on.

With the exterior lamp switch in
position M, you cannot switch on the high
beam headlamps.
The locator lighting and the night security
illumination are described in the “Control
system” section, see “Setting locator light-
ing” (୴ page 152) and “Setting night secu-
rity illumination” (୴ page 153).
The high beam flasher is available at all times.
For nighttime driving turn the exterior lamp
switch to position B or U to permit
activation of the high beam headlamps.

position B, the manual headlamp
mode has priority over the daytime
running lamp mode.
Locator lighting lamps in exterior rear
view mirrors
When the engine is running, and you turn
the exterior lamp switch to position C
or B, the manual headlamp mode has
priority over the daytime running lamp
mode.
If the vehicle is centrally unlocked in the
darkness, the locator lighting lamps in the
exterior rear view mirrors come on.
The corresponding exterior lamps

If a door is opened, the lamp on the
corresponding side goes out. If no doors
are opened, the lamps will go out:
