Seating and Safety Restraints

TheSafetyCanopy௡ismountedtoroofside-railsheetmetal,behindthe

headliner,abovethefirstandsecondrowseats.TheSafetyCanopy௡is

designedtoinflatebetweenthesidewindowareaandoccupantsto

furtherenhanceprotectionprovidedinsideimpactcollisionsandrollover

events.

ThefactthattheSafetyCanopy௡didnotactivateinacollisiondoesnot

meanthatsomethingiswrongwiththesystem.Rather,itmeansthe

forceswerenotofthetypesufficienttocauseactivation.TheSafety

Canopy௡isdesignedtoinflateincertainsideimpactcollisionsorrollover

events,notinrearimpact,frontalornear-frontalcollisions,unlessthe

collisioncausessufficientlateraldecelerationorrolloverlikelihood.

WARNING:SeveralSafety

Canopy௡System

componentsgethotafterinflation.

Donottouchthemafterinflation.

WARNING:IftheSafetyCanopy௡Systemhasdeployed,the

SafetyCanopy௡willnotfunctionagainunlessreplaced.The

SafetyCanopy௡System(includingtheA,B,C,andDpillartrimand

headliner)mustbeinspectedandservicedbyanauthorizeddealer.If

theSafetyCanopy௡isnotreplaced,itwillnotfunctionagain,which

willincreasetheriskofinjuryinafuturecollision.

Determiningifthesystemisoperational

TheSRSusesareadinesslightintheinstrumentclusteroratoneto

indicatetheconditionofthesystem.RefertoWarninglightsand

chimesintheInstrumentClusterchapter.Routinemaintenanceofthe

sideairbagisnotrequired.

Adifficultywiththesystemisindicatedbyoneormoreofthefollowing:

Thereadinesslight(samelightasforfrontairbagsystem)willeither

flashorstaylit.

Thereadinesslightwillnotilluminateimmediatelyafterignitionis

turnedon.

Aseriesoffivebeepswillbeheard.Thetonepatternwillrepeat

periodicallyuntiltheproblemand/orlightarerepaired.
