Coastingwiththeenginestalledor
turnedoffisdangerous.Brakingwill
requiremoreeffort,andthebrake's
power-assistcouldbedepletedifyou
pumpthebrake.Thiswillcause
longerstoppingdistancesorevenan
accident.
Beforeleavingthedriver'sseat,always
putthekeytoLOCKposition,setthe
parkingbrakeandmakesuretheshift
leverisinPwithanautomatic
transaxleorin1orRwithamanual
transaxle:
Itisimportanttoplacethekeyinthe
LOCKpositionevenifyouarenot
removingthekeyfromtheignitionor
leavingthevehicle.Leavingthekey
inotherpositionswilldisablesomeof
thevehiclesecuritysystemsandrun
thebatterydown.
Leavingthedriver'sseatwithout
puttingtheignitionswitchinLOCK
position,settingtheparkingbrake
andshiftingtheshiftlevertoPwith
anautomatictransaxle,orto1orR
withamanualtransaxleis
dangerous.Unexpectedvehicle
movementcouldoccur.Thiscould
causeanaccident.
Shifttoalowergearwhengoingdown
steephills:
Drivingwithyourfootcontinuously
onthebrakepedalorsteadily
applyingthebrakesforlong
distancesisdangerous.Thiscauses
overheatedbrakes,resultingin
longerstoppingdistancesoreven
totalbrakefailure.Thiscouldcause
lossofvehiclecontrolandaserious
accident.Avoidcontinuous
applicationofthebrakes.
Drybrakesthathavebecomewetby
drivingveryslowlyandapplyingthe
brakeslightlyuntilbrakeperformance
isnormal:
CAUTION
Drivingwiththeparkingbrakeon
willcauseexcessivewearofthebrake
liningsorpads.
Drivingwithwetbrakesis
dangerous.Increasedstopping
distanceorthevehiclepullingtoone
sidewhenbrakingcouldresultina
seriousaccident.Lightbrakingwill
indicatewhetherthebrakeshave
beenaffected.
