Emergency towing
IMPORTANTINFORMATION
DONOTattempt to tow the vehicle unless
the starter switch is turned to position ’I’
(to unlock the steering).
DONOTattempt to remove the starter key
or turn the switch to position ’0’while the
vehicle is in motion.
Without the engine running the power
steering pump and brake servo cannot
provide assistance. Greater effort will be
required to operate the brake pedal and to
turn the steering wheel and, therefore,
safelycontrol the vehicle.
Transporter or trailer lashing
If your vehicle should require transporting on
the back of a truck, then the air suspension
must be set to ’ACCESS’before being lashed
(see ’Electronic air suspension’ ). Use the
rings on the front and rear cross-members as
lashing points (see illustration). DONOT
secure lashing hooks or trailer fixings to any
other part of the vehicle.
Towing the vehicle on two-wheels
If it is necessary to recover the vehicle by
towing on two wheels only, always adhere to
the following:
Remove the propeller shaft from the axle
which is to remain on the road.
The propeller shaft flange and shaft must be
marked before removalto ensure correct
re-assembly. Secure the suspended propeller
shaft safelyto prevent damage.
If the air suspension cannot be set to the
’ACCESS’position, then your vehicle must be
lashed by its wheels and NOTby the lashing
rings referred to above.
WARNING
If the rear axle is to be raised, the steering
wheel and/or linkage MUSTbe secured in a
straight ahead position, but the steering
lock MUSTNOTbe used for this purpose.
The vehicle can then be attached to the
towing truck.
