Seat belts
WARNING
Testing inertia reel seat belts
The airbag supplementary restraint system
(SRS) is designed to add to the overall
effectiveness of the seat belts, it DOES NOT
replace them. SEATBELTS MUSTALWAYS
BEWORN.
From time to time carryout the following
tests:
1.
With the seat belt fastened, give the
webbing near the buckle a quick upward
pull. The buckle must remain securely
locked.
2.
With the seat belt fastened, sit back in the
seat and ensure any slackhas been
rewound. Then move the upper body
sharplyforward from the hips - the
mechanism must lock automaticallyand
prevent any further unreeling of the belt.
Caring for seat belts
Regularlyinspect the belt webbing for signs of
fraying, cuts and wear, also paying particular
attention to the condition of the fixing points
and adjusters.
DONOTbleach or dye the webbing. Clean the
webbing using warm water and non-detergent
soap only; allow to dry naturallyand DONOT
retract the belts or use the vehicle until they
are completelydry.
3. With the seat belt unfastened, unreelthe
webbing to the limit of its travel. Check
that unreeling is free from snatches and
snags.
If a seat belt should fail any of these tests,
contact your dealer immediately.
DONOTallow foreign matter (particularly
sugary food and drink particles) to enter the
seat belt locks - such substances can render
the locks inoperative.
WARNING
It is essential to replace the entire assembly
after it has been worn in a severe impact,
even if damage to the assembly is not
obvious.
