Thesetemporarymalfunctionscanbecorrectedbyfillingthefueltank
withgoodqualityfueland/orproperlytighteningthefuelcap.Afterthree
drivingcycleswithouttheseoranyothertemporarymalfunctions
present,theCheckengine/Serviceenginesoonlightshouldturnoff.(A
drivingcycleconsistsofacoldenginestartupfollowedbymixed
city/highwaydriving.)Noadditionalvehicleserviceisrequired.
IftheCheckengine/Serviceenginesoonlightremainson,haveyour
vehicleservicedatthefirstavailableopportunity.
Readiness for Inspection/Maintenance (I/M)  testing
Insomelocalities,itmaybealegalrequirementtopassanI/Mtestof
theon-boarddiagnosticssystem.Ifyour
indicatorison,refertothe
descriptionintheWarninglightsandchimessectionofthe
InstrumentClusterchapter.YourvehiclemaynotpasstheI/Mtestwith
the
indicatoron.
Ifthevehiclespowertrainsystemoritsbatteryhasjustbeenserviced,
theon-boarddiagnosticssystemisresettoanotreadyforI/Mtest
condition.Toreadytheon-boarddiagnosticssystemforI/Mtesting,a
minimumof30minutesofcityandhighwaydrivingisnecessaryas
describedbelow:
First,atleast10minutesofdrivingonanexpresswayorhighway.
Next,atleast20minutesdrivinginstop-and-go,city-typetrafficwith
atleastfouridleperiods.
Allowthevehicletositforatleasteighthourswithoutstartingthe
engine.Then,starttheengineandcompletetheabovedrivingcycle.The
enginemustwarmuptoitsnormaloperatingtemperature.Oncestarted,
donotturnofftheengineuntiltheabovedrivingcycleiscomplete.
