FordMotorCompanyrecommendsthatallpassengersafetybelt
assembliesandattachinghardwareshouldbeinspectedbya
qualifiedtechnicianafteranycollisiontoverifythattheЉautomatic
lockingretractorЉfeatureforchildseatsisstillworkingproperly.Safety
beltassembliesshouldbeinspectedaccordingtotheproceduresinthe
WorkshopManualandreplacedifeitherdamageorimproperoperation
isnoted.Failuretoreplacethebeltandretractorassemblycould
increasetheriskofinjuryinacollision.
Unbucklethecombinationlap/shoulderbeltandallowittoretract
completelytodisengagetheautomaticlockingmodeandactivatethe
vehiclesensitive(emergency)lockingmode.
Safety belt pretensioner
Yourvehicleisequippedwithsafetybeltpretensionersatthedriverand
frontoutboardpassengerseatingpositions.
Thesafetybeltpretensionerisadevicewhichremovesexcesswebbing
fromthesafetybeltsystem.Thesafetybeltpretensionerusesthesame
crashsensorsystemasthefrontairbagsupplementalrestraintsystem
(SRS).Whenthesafetybeltpretensionerdeploys,webbingfromthelap
andshoulderbeltistightened.Thedriverandfrontpassengerseatbelt
system(includingretractors,bucklesandheightadjusters)mustbe
replacedifthevehicleisinvolvedinacollisionthatresultsin
deploymentoffrontairbagsandsafetybeltpretensioners.Refertothe
Safetybeltmaintenancesectioninthischapter.
