Therearetwotypesofbelt-positioningboosterseats:

Thosethatarebackless.
Ifyourbacklessboosterseathasa
removableshield,removethe
shieldandusethelap/shoulder
belt.Ifaseatingpositionhasa
lowseatbackandnohead
restraint,abacklessboosterseat
mayplaceyourchild’shead(top
ofearlevel)abovethetopofthe
seat.Inthiscase,movethe
backlessboostertoanother
seatingpositionwithahigherseatbackandlap/shoulderbelts.

Thosewithahighback.
If,withabacklessboosterseat,
youcannotfindaseatingposition
thatadequatelysupportsyour
child’shead,ahighbackbooster
seatwouldbeabetterchoice.
Bothcanbeusedinanyvehicleinaseatingpositionequippedwith
lap/shoulderbeltsifyourchildisover40lbs.
Theshoulderbeltshouldcrossthechest,restingsnuglyonthecenterof
theshoulder.Thelapbeltshouldrestlowandsnugacrossthehips,
neveruphighacrossthestomach.
Iftheboosterseatslidesonthevehicleseat,placingarubberizedmesh
soldasshelforcarpetlinerundertheboosterseatmayimprovethis
condition.
Theimportanceofshoulderbelts
Usingaboosterwithoutashoulderbeltincreasestheriskofachild’s
headhittingahardsurfaceinacollision.Forthisreason,youshould
neveruseaboosterseatwithalapbeltonly.Itisbesttouseabooster
seatwithlap/shoulderbeltsinthebackseat-thesafestplaceforchildren
toride.
