Determining if the system is operational
Thesupplementalrestraintsystemusesawarningindicatorinthe
instrumentclusteroraback-uptonetoindicatetheconditionofthe
system.RefertotheWarninglightsectionintheInstrumentcluster
chapter.Routinemaintenanceoftheairbagisnotrequired.
Adifficultywiththesystemisindicatedbyoneormoreofthefollowing:

Thereadinesslight(samelight
forfrontandsideairbagsystem)
willeitherflashorstaylit.

Thereadinesslightwillnot
illuminateimmediatelyafterignitionisturnedon.
Aseriesoffivebeepswillbeheard.Thetonepatternwillrepeat
periodicallyuntiltheproblemand/orlightarerepaired.
Ifanyofthesethingshappen,evenintermittently,havethesupplemental
restraintsystemservicedatyourdealershiporbyaqualifiedtechnician
immediately.Unlessserviced,thesystemmaynotfunctionproperlyin
theeventofacollision.
Side air bag system (if equipped)
Donotplaceobjectsormountequipmentonorneartheairbag
coveronthesideoftheseatbacksofthefrontseatsorinfront
seatareasthatmaycomeintocontactwithadeployingairbag.Failure
tofollowtheseinstructionsmayincreasetheriskofpersonalinjuryin
theeventofacollision.
Donotuseaccessoryseatcovers.Theuseofaccessoryseat
coversmaypreventthedeploymentofthesideairbagsand
increasetheriskofinjuryinanaccident.
