theSideAirbagTechnicalWorking
Group.Theserecommendedtesting
procedureshelpreducetheriskof
injuriesrelatedtothedeploymentof
sideairbags.
Thesideairbagsystemconsistsof
thefollowing:

Aninflatablenylonbag(airbag)
withagasgeneratorconcealed
behindtheoutboardbolsterof
thedriverandfrontpassenger
seatbacks.

Aspecialseatcoverdesignedtoallowairbagdeployment.
Thesamewarninglight,electroniccontrolanddiagnosticunitasused
forthefrontairbags.

Twocrashsensorslocatedonthelowerportionoftheb-pillar(oneon
eachsideofthevehicle).
Sideairbags,incombinationwithsafetybelts,canhelpreducetheriskof
severeinjuriesintheeventofasignificantsideimpactcollision.
Thesideairbagsarefittedontheoutboardsideoftheseatbacksofthe
frontseats.Incertainlateralcollisions,theairbagonthesideaffectedby
thecollisionwillbeinflated.Ifthefrontpassengersensingsystem
detectsanemptyseat,thefrontpassengerseat-mountedsideairbagwill
bedeactivated.Theairbagwasdesignedtoinflatebetweenthedoor
panelandoccupanttofurtherenhancetheprotectionprovided
occupantsinsideimpactcollisions.
