Asanaddedsafetyfeature,yourvehiclehasbeenequippedwithatire
pressuremonitoringsystem(TPMS)thatilluminatesalowtirepressure
telltalewhenoneormoreofyourtiresissignificantlyunder-inflated.
Accordingly,whenthelowtirepressuretelltaleilluminates,youshould
stopandcheckyourtiresassoonaspossible,andinflatethemtothe
properpressure.Drivingonasignificantlyunder-inflatedtirecausesthe
tiretooverheatandcanleadtotirefailure.Under-inflationalsoreduces
fuelefficiencyandtiretreadlife,andmayaffectthevehicle’shandling
andstoppingability.
PleasenotethattheTPMSisnotasubstituteforpropertire
maintenance,anditisthedriver’sresponsibilitytomaintaincorrecttire
pressure,evenifunder-inflationhasnotreachedtheleveltotrigger
illuminationoftheTPMSlowtirepressuretelltale.
YourvehiclehasalsobeenequippedwithaTPMSmalfunctionindicator
toindicatewhenthesystemisnotoperatingproperly.TheTPMS
malfunctionindicatoriscombinedwiththelowtirepressuretelltale.
Whenthesystemdetectsamalfunction,thetelltalewillflashfor
approximatelyoneminuteandthenremaincontinuouslyilluminated.
Thissequencewillcontinueuponsubsequentvehiclestart-upsaslongas
themalfunctionexists.
Whenthemalfunctionindicatorisilluminated,thesystemmaynotbe
abletodetectorsignallowtirepressureasintended.TPMSmalfunctions
mayoccurforavarietyofreasons,includingtheinstallationof
replacementoralternatetiresorwheelsonthevehiclethatpreventthe
TPMSfromfunctioningproperly.AlwayschecktheTPMSmalfunction
telltaleafterreplacingoneormoretiresorwheelsonyourvehicleto
ensurethatthereplacementoralternatetiresandwheelsallowthe
TPMStocontinuetofunctionproperly.
TheTirePressureMonitoringSystemcomplieswithpart15oftheFCC
rulesandwithRSS-210ofIndustryCanada.Operationissubjecttothe
followingtwoconditions:(1)Thisdevicemaynotcauseharmful
interference,and(2)Thisdevicemustacceptanyinterferencereceived,
includinginterferencethatmaycauseundesiredoperation.
WARNING:TheTirePressureMonitoringSystemisNOTa
substituteformanuallycheckingtirepressure.Thetirepressure
shouldbecheckedperiodically(atleastmonthly)usingatiregauge,
seeInflatingyourtiresinthischapter.Failuretoproperlymaintain
yourtirepressurecouldincreasetheriskoftirefailure,lossofcontrol,
vehiclerolloverandpersonalinjury.
