ventcaps,resultinginpersonalinjuryand/ordamagetothevehicleor
battery.Liftthebatterywithabatterycarrierorwithyourhandson
oppositecorners.
WARNING:Keepbatteriesoutofreachofchildren.Batteries
containsulfuricacid.Avoidcontactwithskin,eyesorclothing.
Shieldyoureyeswhenworkingnearthebatterytoprotectagainst
possiblesplashingofacidsolution.Incaseofacidcontactwithskinor
eyes,flushimmediatelywithwaterforaminimumof15minutesand
getpromptmedicalattention.Ifacidisswallowed,callaphysician
immediately.
WARNING:Batteryposts,terminalsandrelatedaccessories
containleadandleadcompounds.Washhandsafterhandling.
Becauseyourvehicle’sengineiselectronicallycontrolledbyacomputer,
somecontrolconditionsaremaintainedbypowerfromthebattery.When
thebatteryisdisconnectedoranewbatteryisinstalled,theenginemust
relearnitsidleandfueltrimstrategyforoptimumdriveabilityand
performance.Tobeginthisprocess:

Withthevehicleatacompletestop,settheparkingbrake.

position(manualtransmission),turnoffallaccessoriesandstartthe
engine.
PutthegearshiftinP(Park)(automatictransmission)ortheneutral

Runtheengineuntilitreachesnormaloperatingtemperature.
Allowtheenginetoidleforatleastoneminute.
TurntheA/Conandallowtheenginetoidleforatleastoneminute.
Drivethevehicletocompletetherelearningprocess.
Thevehiclemayneedtobedriven10miles(16km)ormoreto
relearntheidleandfueltrimstrategy.

Ifyoudonotallowtheenginetorelearnitsidletrim,theidle
qualityofyourvehiclemaybeadverselyaffecteduntiltheidle
trimiseventuallyrelearned.
Whenthebatteryisdisconnectedoranewbatteryinstalled,the
transmissionmustlearnitsadaptivestrategy.Asaresultofthis,the
