TractionControlisadriveraidfeaturethathelpsyourvehiclemaintain
tractionofthewheels,typicallywhendrivingonslipperyand/orhilly
roadsurfaces,bydetectingandcontrollingwheelspin.
Excessivewheelspiniscontrolledintwoways,whichmaywork
separatelyorintandem,EngineTractionControlandBrakeTraction
Control.EngineTractionControlworkstolimitdrive-wheelspinby
momentarilyreducingenginepower.BrakeTractionControlworksto
limitwheelspinbymomentarilyapplyingthebrakestothewheelthatis
slipping.TractionControlismostactiveatlowspeeds.
DuringTractionControleventsthe“slidingcar”icon
instrumentclusterwillflash.
inthe
IftheTractionControlsystemisactivatedexcessivelyinashortperiod
oftime,thebrakingportionofthesystemmaybecometemporarily
disabledtoallowthebrakestocooldown.Inthissituation,Traction
Controlwilluseonlyenginepowerreductionortransfertohelpcontrol
thewheelsfromover-spinning.Whenthebrakeshavecooleddown,the
systemwillregainallfeatures.Anti-lockbraking,andESCarenot
affectedbythisconditionandwillcontinuetofunctionduringthe
cool-downperiod.
TheEngineTractionControlandBrakeTractionControlsystemmaybe
deactivatedincertainsituations.SeetheSwitchingOffAdvanceTrac
sectionbelow.
ElectronicStabilityControl(ESC)
ElectronicStabilityControl(ESC)mayenhanceyourvehicle’sdirectional
stabilityduringadversemaneuvers,forexamplewhencorneringseverely
oravoidingobjectsintheroadway.ESCoperatesbyapplyingbrakesto
oneormoreofthewheelsindividuallyand,ifnecessary,reducingengine
powerifthesystemdetectsthatthevehicleisabouttoskidorslide
laterally.
DuringElectronicStabilityControleventsthe“slidingcar”icon
instrumentclusterwillflash.
