Tiresdegradeovertime,evenwhentheyarenotbeingused.Itis
recommendedthattiresgenerallybereplacedafter6yearsofnormal
service.Heatcausedbyhotclimatesorfrequenthighloading
conditionscanacceleratetheagingprocess.
Youshouldreplacethesparetirewhenyoureplacetheotherroadtires
duetotheagingofthesparetire.
U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number (TIN)
BothU.S.andCanadaFederalregulationsrequiretiremanufacturersto
placestandardizedinformationonthesidewallofalltires.This
informationidentifiesanddescribesthefundamentalcharacteristicsof
thetireandalsoprovidesaU.S.DOTTireIdentificationNumberfor
safetystandardcertificationandincaseofarecall.
Thisbeginswiththeletters“DOT”andindicatesthatthetiremeetsall
federalstandards.Thenexttwonumbersorlettersaretheplantcode
designatingwhereitwasmanufactured,thenexttwoarethetiresize
codeandthelastfournumbersrepresenttheweekandyearthetirewas
built.Forexample,thenumbers317meanthe31stweekof1997.After
2000
thenumbersgotofourdigits.Forexample,2501meansthe25th
weekof2001.Thenumbersinbetweenareidentificationcodesusedfor
traceability.Thisinformationisusedtocontactcustomersifatiredefect
requiresarecall.
Tire Replacement Requirements
Yourvehicleisequippedwithtiresdesignedtoprovideasaferideand
handlingcapability.
Onlyusereplacementtiresandwheelsthatarethesamesize
andtype(suchasP-metricversusLT-metricorall-seasonversus
all-terrain)asthoseoriginallyprovidedbyFord.Useofanytireor
wheelnotrecommendedbyFordcanaffectthesafetyand
performanceofyourvehicle,whichcouldresultinanincreasedriskof
lossofvehiclecontrol,vehiclerollover,personalinjuryanddeath.
Additionallytheuseofnon-recommendedtiresandwheelscouldcause
steering,suspension,axleortransfercase/powertransferunitfailure.If
youhavequestionsregardingtirereplacement,seeanauthorized
dealer.
Important:Remembertoreplacethewheelvalvestemswhentheroad
tiresarereplacedonyourvehicle.
