Forairbagstodotheirjobtheymustinflatewithgreatforce,andthis
forcecanposeapotentiallydeadlyrisktooccupantsthatareveryclose
totheairbagwhenitbeginstoinflate.Forsomeoccupants,thisoccurs
becausetheyareinitiallysittingveryclosetotheairbag.Forother
occupants,thisoccurswhentheoccupantisnotproperlyrestrainedby
safetybeltsorchildsafetyseatsandtheymoveforwardduringpre-crash
braking.Themosteffectivewaytoreducetheriskofunnecessary
injuriesistomakesurealloccupantsareproperlyrestrained.Accident
statisticssuggestthatchildrenaremuchsaferwhenproperlyrestrained
intherearseatingpositionsthaninthefront.
Airbagscankillorinjureachildinachildseat.NEVERplacea
rear-facingchildseatinfrontofanactiveairbag.Ifyoumust
useaforward-facingchildseatinthefrontseat,movetheseatallthe
wayback.
Alwaystransportchildren12yearsoldandunderintheback
seatandalwaysproperlyuseappropriatechildrestraints.
Thefrontpassengersensingsystemcanautomaticallyturnoffthefront
passengerairbagandpassengerseat-mountedsideairbag.Thesystemis
designedtohelpprotectsmall(childsize)occupantsfromfrontalairbag
deploymentswhentheyareseatedorrestrainedinthefrontpassenger
seatcontrarytoproperchild-seatingorrestraintusage
recommendations.Evenwiththistechnology,parentsareSTRONGLY
encouragedtoalwaysproperlyrestrainchildrenintherearseat.The
sensoralsoturnsoffthepassengerfrontairbagandpassenger
seat-mountedsideairbag(ifequipped)whenthepassengerseatisempty
andthesafetybeltisunbuckled,orwhenachildorasmallperson
occupiesthefrontpassengerseatandthesafetybeltisunbuckled.

Thefrontsafetybeltusagesensorsdetectwhetherornotthedriverand
frontoutboardpassengersafetybeltsarefastened.Thisinformation
allowsyourPersonalSafetySystemtotailortheairbagdeploymentand
safetybeltpretensioneractivationdependinguponsafetybeltusage.
