VEHICLE LOADING
Thissectionwillguideyouintheproperloadingofyourvehicletokeep
yourloadedvehicleweightwithinitsdesignratingcapability.Properly
loadingyourvehiclewillprovidemaximumreturnofvehicledesign
performance.Beforeloadingyourvehicle,familiarizeyourselfwiththe
followingtermsfordeterminingyourvehicle’sweightratingsfromthe
vehicle’sTireLabelorSafetyComplianceCertificationLabel:
BaseCurbWeight–istheweightofthevehicleincludingafulltankof
fuelandallstandardequipment.Itdoesnotincludepassengers,cargo,or
optionalequipment.
VehicleCurbWeight–istheweightofyournewvehiclewhenyou
pickeditupfromyourauthorizeddealerplusanyaftermarket
equipment.
Payload–isthecombinedweightofcargoandpassengersthatthe
vehicleiscarrying.Themaximumpayloadforyourvehiclecanbefound
ontheTireLabelontheB-Pillarortheedgeofthedriver’sdoor
(vehiclesexportedoutsidetheUSandCanadamaynothaveaTire
Label).Lookfor“THECOMBINEDWEIGHTOFOCCUPANTSAND
CARGOSHOULDNEVEREXCEEDXXXkgORXXXlb.”for
maximumpayload.ThepayloadlistedontheTireLabelisthemaximum
payloadforthevehicleasbuiltbytheassemblyplant.Ifanyaftermarket
orauthorized-dealerinstalledequipmenthasbeeninstalledonthe
vehicle,theweightoftheequipmentmustbesubtractedfromthe
payloadlistedontheTireLabelinordertodeterminethenewpayload.
Theappropriateloadingcapacityofyourvehiclecanbelimited
eitherbyvolumecapacity(howmuchspaceisavailable)orby
payloadcapacity(howmuchweightthevehicleshouldcarry).Once
youhavereachedthemaximumpayloadofyourvehicle,donotadd
morecargo,evenifthereisspaceavailable.Overloadingorimproperly
loadingyourvehiclecancontributetolossofvehiclecontroland
vehiclerollover.
