transmissionfluidandenginecoolantarewarm[usu-
ally after 1 to 3 miles (1.6 to 4.8 km) of driving].
Because the engine speed is higher when the torque
converterclutchisnotengaged,itmayseemasifthe
transmissionisnotshiftingintoOverdrivewhencold.
Thisisnormal.Manuallyshifting(usingtheERSshift
control) between 4 (direct gear) and 5/D (Overdrive
gear)positionswilldemonstratethatthetransmission
isabletoshiftintoandoutofOverdrive.Forvehicles
RockingtheVehicle
Ifthevehiclebecomesstuckinsnow,sand,ormud,itcan
oftenbemovedbyarockingmotion.Movetheshiftlever
between DRIVE and REVERSE, while applying slight
pressuretotheaccelerator.

thetransmissionmaynotshiftintothetopOverdrive tionControlSystem(TCS)(ifequipped)shouldbeturned
gear (normal fifth gear) until the transmission fluid OFF before attempting to rock the vehicle. Refer to
