Certain cond itions such as a loose or missing gas cap,
poor quality fuel, etc. may illuminate the light after
engine start. The vehicle shou ld be serviced if the light
stays on throu gh several typ ical driving styles. In most
situ ations, the vehicle will drive norm ally and will not
requ ire tow ing.
19. Odometer/TripOdometer
The odometer show s the total distance the vehicle has
been driven.
The odometer will “illu minate” when the driver’s door
has been opened , and will rem ain on for 20 second s after
exiting the vehicle.
When the engine is running, the “Malfu nction Ind icator
Light” may flash to alert seriou s cond itions that could
lead to immediate loss of power or severe catalytic
converter damage. The vehicle shou ld be serviced as
soon as possible if this occurs. (See page 250 for more
inform ation.)
U.S. federal regu lations requ ire that upon transfer of
vehicle ownership , the seller certify to the purchaser the
correct mileage that the vehicle has been driven. There-
fore, if the odometer read ing is changed during rep air or
rep lacem ent, be sure to keep a record of the read ing
before and after the service so the correct mileage can be
determ ined .

TripOdometerButton
Press and release this button to toggle betw een the
odometer and trip odometer displays. This button is also
used to reset the trip odometer to 0. While the display is
show ing the trip odometer, press and hold the button for
approxim ately 2 second s and the display will reset to 0.
The trip odometer show s ind ivid ual mileage up to 999.9
miles (1 600 km). To switch from odometer to trip
odometer, press the trip odometer button.
