childrenaresaferwhenproperlyrestrainedintherearseating

Children and safety belts
Ifthechildisthepropersize,restrainthechildinasafetyseat.
Childrenwhoaretoolargeforchildsafetyseats(asspecifiedbyyour
childsafetyseatmanufacturer)shouldalwayswearsafetybelts.
Followalltheimportantsafetyrestraintandairbagprecautionsthat
applytoadultpassengersinyourvehicle.
Iftheshoulderbeltportionofacombinationlapandshoulderbeltcan
bepositionedsoitdoesnotcrossorrestinfrontofthechild’sfaceor
neck,thechildshouldwearthelapandshoulderbelt.Movingthechild
closertothecenterofthevehiclemayhelpprovideagoodshoulderbelt
fit.
WARNING: Donotleavechildren,unreliableadults,orpets
unattendedinyourvehicle.
WARNING: Placingachild,12yearsoryounger,inthefront
seatisdangerous.Thechildcouldbehitbyadeployingairbag
andbeseriouslyinjuredorevenkilled.Asleepingchildismore
likelytoleanagainstthedoorandbehitbythesideairbagina
moderatecollision.Wheneverpossible,alwayssecureachild,12
yearsoryounger,intherearseat,withanappropriatechild
restraintsystemforthechild’sageandsize.Neverusea
rear-facingchildrestraintsysteminthefrontseatwithanair
bagthatcoulddeploy.
Child booster seats
Childrenoutgrowatypicalconvertibleortoddlerseatwhentheyweigh
40
poundsandarearound4yearsofage.Althoughthelap/shoulderbelt
willprovidesomeprotection,thesechildrenarestilltoosmallfor
lap/shoulderbeltstofitproperly,whichcouldincreasetheriskofserious
injury.
