crashprotectiontofrontseatoccupantsandisdesignedtohelpfurther
reducetheriskofairbag-relatedinjuries.Thesystemisabletoanalyze
differentoccupantconditionsandcrashseveritybeforeactivatingthe
appropriatesafetydevicestohelpbetterprotectarangeofoccupantsin
avarietyoffrontalcrashsituations.

HowdoesthePersonalSafetySystemwork?
ThePersonalSafetySystemcanadaptthedeploymentstrategyofyour
vehicle’ssafetydevicesaccordingtocrashseverityandoccupant
conditions.Acollectionofcrashandoccupantsensorsprovides
informationtotheRestraintscontrolmodule(RCM).Duringacrash,the
RCMactivatesthesafetybeltpretensionersand/oreitheroneorboth
stagesofthedual-stageairbagsupplementalrestraintsbasedoncrash
severityandoccupantconditions.
Thefactthatthepretensionersorairbagsdidnotactivateforbothfront
seatoccupantsinacollisiondoesnotmeanthatsomethingiswrongwith
thesystem.Rather,itmeansthePersonalSafetySystemdeterminedthe
accidentconditions(crashseverity,beltusage,etc.)werenot
appropriatetoactivatethesesafetydevices.Frontairbagsand
pretensionersaredesignedtoactivateonlyinfrontalandnear-frontal
collisions,notrollovers,side-impacts,orrear-impactsunlessthecollision
causessufficientlongitudinaldeceleration.
