Load equalizing hitch
Whenhookingupatrailerusingaloadequalizinghitch,alwaysusethe
followingprocedure:
1.
Parktheunloadedvehicleonalevelsurface.Withtheignitiononand
alldoorsclosed,allowthevehicletostandforseveralminutessothatit
canlevel.
2.
Measuretheheightofareferencepointonthefrontandrearbumpers
atthecenterofthevehicle.
3.
Attachthetrailertothevehicleandadjustthehitchequalizerssothat

⁄ ”(13mm)ofthereferencepoint.

Afterproperadjustment,therearbumpershouldbenohigherthanin

Note:Adjustinganequalizinghitchsotherearbumperofthevehicleis
higherthanitwasunloadedwilldefeatthefunctionoftheload
equalizinghitchandmaycauseunpredictablehandling.
Safety chains
Alwaysconnectthetrailer’ssafetychainstotheframeorhookretainers
ofthevehiclehitch.Toconnectthetrailer’ssafetychains,crossthe
chainsunderthetrailertongueandallowslackforturningcorners.
Ifyouusearentaltrailer,followtheinstructionsthattherentalagency
givestoyou.
Donotattachsafetychainstothebumper.
Trailer brakes
Electricbrakesandmanual,automaticorsurge-typetrailerbrakesaresafe
ifinstalledproperlyandadjustedtothemanufacturer’sspecifications.The
trailerbrakesmustmeetlocalandFederalregulations.
Ifyouownatrailerwithahydraulicbrakesystem,donot
connectthetrailer’shydraulicbrakesystemdirectlytoyour
vehicle’sbrakesystem.Thevehicle’sbrakesystemisonlydesignedto
carrytheappropriateamountofbrakefluidforthevehiclealone.
Connectingahydraulictrailerbrakingsystemcouldadverselyaffect
yourvehicle’sbrakingperformance.
